TIM BROWN – OVVIO TEA AMBASSADOR NO:413th August 2015
1. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
My name is Tim Brown.
I am originally from Wellington NSW, but have lived all over the world including Thailand in the early 80s, Canberra, Sydney, Uzbekistan, UK, and Flagstaff Arizona!
I am a happily married father of three kids, Will 11, Gracie 10 and Rosie 8 1/2. Amber and I had 3 kids under 3! We live in Bronte and the whole family is keenly involved in the surf club.
I am the founder of The Meditation Centre in Paddington and have been teaching now for the last 14 years. I have taught over two and a half thousand people to meditate including, kids, mums and dads, corporates, elite sports people, inmates(!), people challenged with health issues – you name it, I have taught them! www.TimBrownMeditation.com
I am also the founder of ConsciousClub. www.ConsciousClub.com
2. HOW DID YOU BECOME A MEDITATION TEACHER?
Certainly a little surprising considering I had been a trained Agricultural Economist and a beer drinking, rugby player, I know!
After returning from living and working in Uzbekistan in 1998 where I was involved in a project to privatise agriculture from the formerly Russian, centrally planned model, it was time to settle down, get a job and get serious about a career.
I was interviewing in corporate Australia and the pressure and stress was getting to me. Fortunately I was introduced to my meditation teacher Thom Knoles who was a prominent teacher in Australia in the 80’s and 90s. He was also a trained neuroscientist which I found fascinating so he had a grasp on the traditional and the scientific view on meditation which I found engaging.
I learnt from Thom, re-engaged in the corporate world for a few years before my passion for meditation rendered me choiceless about pursuing a career in teaching it.
I trained in Flagstaff, Arizona with Thom for a year and then returned in 2001 and set up the centre in Paddington. 14 years, 3 kids, over 2500 students later I only feel like I have got started at this!
