This workshop will explore the use of herbal adaptogens in the form of teas, tonics and in food to support the stress response when treating disease.
Adaptogens are a term used in herbal medicine for whole body tonics as they increase the resistance to physical, environmental, emotional or biological stressors and restores normal physiological function to the body. They work on hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis dysregulation (HPA-D) not just the adrenal glands. HPA-D affects nearly every cell and tissue in the body. Adaptogens are prescribed for stress, intensive exercise, endurance and poor recovery, convalescence, post-surgery, adrenal exhaustion, lack of sleep, chemical exposure, poor immune health and basically any chronic illness would do well with an adaptogen. Adaptogens have been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions, but they’re having a renaissance today.
